eyes Posted 14 October , 2009 Share Posted 14 October , 2009 Evening all Looking for information as to what kind and how much first aid training the stretcher bearers of Field Ambulance Units would have been given. I don't think they were "medics" in the modern military sense, but were they only carriers, vice treaters, of wounded soldiers? Many thanks in advance. sotonmate Posted 15 October , 2009 Share Posted 15 October , 2009 Colin, A little info. here from the Long Long Trail,at top left of this page: http://www.1914-1918.net/wounded.htm I would think that the stretcher bearers were just carriers, they were often delegated from the Infantry Battalions, particularly before a big attack. petestarling Posted 15 October , 2009 Share Posted 15 October , 2009 Colin RAMC Training Manual 1911 was the manual in use at the time and will give you all sorts of information of training. It is very common and you can usually find one for sale quite easily. Pete Starling
