Adam Llewellyn Posted 14 October , 2009 Share Posted 14 October , 2009 Good day all, Straight forward question with a slight twist. Was India a theatre of war? The NA site as 6, Asia and g, Frontier regions of India, but does not have India listed as anything else. I'm just trying to sort a date of entry out for a man who disembarked at Bombay 29.07.1917 and then embarked from Bombay 15.11.1917 to disembarked Basra 21.11.1917. Would the date of entry be 29.07.1917 or 21.11.1917? Regards. Llew.
SteveE Posted 15 October , 2009 Share Posted 15 October , 2009 Llew I'd go with 21/11/1917 as date of entry into theatre as, as you suggest, India was not a theatre of war in itself. Regards Steve

per ardua per mare per terram Posted 16 October , 2009 Share Posted 16 October , 2009 India was like: the UK, Canada and other Dominions not an active war zone. Specific areas were, ones that are now familiar to news followers again.
Adam Llewellyn Posted 20 October , 2009 Author Share Posted 20 October , 2009 Thanks. I was just getting slightly confused with the Frontier regions of India. Llew.
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 24 October , 2009 Share Posted 24 October , 2009 Large garrisons were stationed in India, but they could be thousands of miles away from a war zone, just as they are now!
