I'm not really a camera buff but I'll see what I can manage - at least to establish whether it's been re-erected or not. Out of curiosity - is there a particular story to Pte Stevenson?

Thanks to everyone for all that. I am in Ypres this weekend and intend to visit POPERINGHE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY and his grave.

Mike

Make sure you take a coat and scarf - have just got back from Ypres and I can tell you the wind is whistling and chilly, especially at Tyne Cot.

No it doesn't.

'This is the first sentence of death on an officer to be put into execution since I became C-in-C.'

How does that statement imply there were sentences before he became C-in-C?

The statement is qualified. It might just be read to mean that he has no knowledge of whatever happened before he succeeded French.

He is one of the many "Shot At Dawn" soldiers in this cemetery.

Thanks & Regards

Surely the key word is "since"!
