SteveE Posted 6 October , 2009 Share Posted 6 October , 2009 Hopefully this is the right one, none of the cards for Walter Edwards have the rank of Saddler Serjeant, this is the closest that fits the bill. There is nothing on the back. Regards Steve
jay dubaya Posted 6 October , 2009 Share Posted 6 October , 2009 The 6 digit TF number was part of the block allocated to the 5th London Bty, 2nd London Bde, RFA, during late November 1916. Walter must have seen service with another unit given his date of entry, cheers, Jon
SteveE Posted 6 October , 2009 Share Posted 6 October , 2009 The 6 digit TF number was part of the block allocated to the 5th London Bty, 2nd London Bde, RFA, during late November 1916. Walter must have seen service with another unit given his date of entry, Jon From elsewhere on the forum, his 6-digit number was part of the block allocated to one of two units.... 950001-955000 235 BDE, RFA TF/ 1/5 LONDON BDE 950001-955000 300 BDE, RFA TF/ 2/5 LONDON (BROKEN UP AUG 16). From his date of entry I'd suggest he went overseas with the 1/5th London Brigade (Batteries from Kennington and Paddington) as part of 47th (2nd London) Division which started to move to France 8th March 1915. squirrel Posted 7 October , 2009 Author Share Posted 7 October , 2009 Thanks very much Steve and jay dubbya; he was from just outside Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, so being with 47th London Division makes sense. The Dacorum History Society recently printed a piece about his life after the War with a poor quality picture and he is wearing a 14/15 Star ribbon which ties in.
