Remembered Today:

WWI Bandoleer

I was at the European Cartridge Research Association annual meeting in Holland at the weekend and was fortunate to pick up a WWI cotton bandoleer. It is becoming increasingly hard to find these.

The manufacturer's stamp is "CAPLIN II 6 16" and the contents stamp shows it originally held 50 rounds of .303 ball made by Kings Norton Metal Co. The Date of Work of the ammunition was 23.9.16 and the headstamp would have been "KN 16 VII".

This stamp has been cancelled and the bandoleer was re-used to hold 50 rounds made by Royal Laboratory in 1926. This was one of four such bandoleers there, and all had been re-issued by RL in 1926. They must have been held in storage for the intervening years.
