Remembered Today:

1st Battalion Canterbury Regiment

Recommended Posts

The second of two brothers I am researching - Private Ernest Ashley Todd. 44609, arrived in France in September 1917. He was with the 1st Batt, Canterbury Regiment. He was KIA on the 6th April 1918 and buried in the Knightsbridge Cemetery at Mesnil- Martinsart in the Somme.

I understand he was killed near Le Signey Farm.

Does anyone know what action this was.

Thank you.

Tony

For a start, here's the extract from the regimental history that covers the time of his death. I think I may have their War Diary for this period too, but I'll have to have a look...

...OK it's from a little later - June 1918 - but here's a trenchmap extract of the area...

Thank you for the information.

The J Todd on the honour roll is not his brother Oliver. He was in the 6th Battery, 2nd NZ Field Artillery.

I appreciate your assistance as its a good start.
