o j kirby Posted 11 September , 2009 Share Posted 11 September , 2009 Hello, Am I right in saying that the Labour Corps cap badge of WW1 was replicated in WW2 for the pioneer corps? Is there any difference between the two badges? My "Labour Corps" badge is fairly flat, with a crown that is not in high relief. Does any member have any comments on this? Cheers Owain. Ivor Lee Posted 11 September , 2009 Share Posted 11 September , 2009 Owain You are right - the Pioneer Corps adopted the same badge as the Labour Corps. According to Cox the Labour Corps badge was gilded for Other Ranks and bronze for officers. I have several Labour Corps/Pioneer Corps badges which are slightly different. I am not an expert on badges but do wonder whether they were made by a number of different firms. The Labour Corps badge was only approved in October 1918 and, with the size of the Corps at the time, they must have made 400,000+ badges - so I would suspect there were small variations. It will be interesting to hear what someone with more knowledge of badges thinks. Regards Ivor
o j kirby Posted 14 September , 2009 Author Share Posted 14 September , 2009 Hi Ivor, Thanks for the reply. My example of the badge has been gilded, but most of this has been rubbed off over time. Some of it remains. Can I therefore assume that my example is Labour Corps and not pioneers? Cheers Owain.
max7474 Posted 16 September , 2009 Share Posted 16 September , 2009 Not for definate. It was the same badge for both units.
