jwp2007 Posted 6 September , 2009 Share Posted 6 September , 2009 This is a badge i have had for a number of years,it has a pin and hook on the back so may not be a cap badge, the battalion number is 170,could this date from ww1 or is it later?, many thanks, John. trenchtrotter Posted 6 September , 2009 Share Posted 6 September , 2009 Yes the 170th was a war raised battalion and I suspect you have a "collar badge" as the cap badge was different. Recruited from Toronto area and amalgamated with the 169th in 1916. Never served as an active unit based in UK and probably supplied reinforcements to the "active" overseas units in France. Known as the "Mississauga Battalion" Regards TT
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 6 September , 2009 Share Posted 6 September , 2009 As it has a Brooch Back it may well be a "Sweetheart" Pin??
Broznitsky Posted 6 September , 2009 Share Posted 6 September , 2009 It doesn't look "sweet" enough to be a sweetheart. Some badge makers used pin back; look closely at the rear, they often inscribed the company name and even the year.
jwp2007 Posted 7 September , 2009 Author Share Posted 7 September , 2009 many thanks for your replies, i had thought it may be a collar badge as it is quite small, about 0ne and half inches in size, the back is quite smooth with no markings on, the badge is actually a lot lighter in colour than has come out in the picture, more of a brass colour. thank you all for the information, kind regards, John.
