julie pearce Posted 3 September , 2009 Share Posted 3 September , 2009 My granddad was with the 284 siege battery from 25th November 1917 to 16th March 1918. When I looked in the war diaries specific to the 284 at Kew the areas were all in code. On speaking to others on the forum apparently the 284 were positioned in the map reference B25c 01 and B26 a 53, though unsure of the dates they were there. It appears they were based around the area of Ecurie in Jan, Feb and March, though still not sure where they may have been in Nov and Dec. More specifically in Jan they had two positions. H position (B15B 31) x 4 guns on Sunken Rd 500 yards west of the sugar factory. Where could this be found today on general road maps as we are going to that area next Friday? Also D position (B9B 47) x 2 guns at Willerval. Have found Willerval on todays road maps, but would there be a specific area easy to find where that map reference could have been? Any help will be gratefully received. Julie
