Greg Cole Posted 24 August , 2009 Share Posted 24 August , 2009 I'm trying to identify this uniform my Great Grandfather is wearing in this undated photo. I know that he served with the East Yorkshire Reg. & was attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers during WW1. As far as I know he only served during the war & was not a regular, however I could be wrong. A few years back I purchased a small piece of Northumberland Uniform was may have been a lapel, it's blue with some gold or brass tassles on the end with a NF button. I always assumed this uniform my GG is wearing was a NF uniform. I'm starting to wonder if he was a regular before the war or if it's some kind of cadet uniform, although he looks a little old to be a cadet. I know he immigrated to Australia in January 1920 so I'm assuming he wasnt in the army after the war. He was a POW & I suspect he went back to England, got married to his girl & came to Australia. Thanks & regards, Greg
high wood Posted 24 August , 2009 Share Posted 24 August , 2009 Looks to me to be a Yeomanry uniform but I cannot identify the cap badge. It looks like a crown above the letters I Y which could indicate Imperial Yeomanry.
Guest Posted 24 August , 2009 Share Posted 24 August , 2009 Hi Greg. Post some more details, and might be able to figure it out, using MIC's, etc. Am no expert, but looks Hussar-ish Cheers Mike

So, Imperial Yoemanry which would date it just after the Boer War or thereabouts IMHO.
