Hi

I am trying to get some information about Ernest Tritton, who was in the Army Chaplincy in France, does anyone know how I can trace his background and what he did after the war?

If he was a Church of England minister [i.e.ordained deacon/priest], he should be listed in successive editions of Crockford's Clerical Directory which is published in alternate years; back numbers might be available in large libraries or record offices.

Suggest sending a PM to LST_164 for this. He is "in the trade"

Hello Liz,

Ernest Tritton is shown in Crockford's Directory on Ancestry in 1898 and 1932 {biography}. He can be found by searching for 'Tritton'. It seems he was an Army Chaplain between 1917 and 1919. He should appear in other years of Crockfords, but this does not seem to have been picked up by Ancestry. I would suggest you try a name similar to Tritton and then go through Crockfords a page at a time until you get Ernest. Additionally, Ernest Tritton should appear in the London Gazzette. Try searching under 'Tritton' and 'Chaplain'.

Regards,

Alf McM
