Am on the case of Archibald Hohn Howell, First Class Petty Officer, RNVR, late of HMS THESEUS and AMBROSE, who was drowned in Birkenhead Docks on 14 March 1915.

Just wondered if anyone has come across anything that might be relevant to this?

Hi - Think this may be him? - Different date and forename, perhaps errors:

Ordinarily I would have suggested the Aux Patrol Weekly Reports in the 137 series at Kew but I dont think the Liverpool file covers 1915. I think your best bet would be a local newspaper

That seems to be the man Terry; as you say currently recorded with errors (scanning?)

But shown thus on the Naval History Net

Thursday, 18 March 1915

Ambrose

Checked the Birkenhead News but didn't find anything on him. There was a dockers strike on at the time, don't know if this is relevant or not.

Many thanks to going to the trouble to check it out
