Philip Wilson Posted 15 August , 2009 Share Posted 15 August , 2009 Yes its a good book - especially the 12th edition which was revised and enlarged with six additional maps and an index. The author makes it clear that 'the main point aimed at is accuracy; no attempt is made to magnify achievements, or to minimise failures'. My copy is dated 1916 and would have benefitted from loose leaf maps rather than those inserted within the text. The quality of the maps being very good commencing with 7 miles to the inch Maps showing troop dispositions are at either 2 miles or 3 miles to the inch in the retreat from Mons. Includes a very useful 10 page index containing names of units and individuals mentioned. Very readable indeed.
