joel Posted 13 August , 2009 Share Posted 13 August , 2009 Hi Guys, i'm looking for help in regards the Glenlomond War Hospital, Kinross, Scotland, my Great Grandfather 202459 L/cpl Ernest Goodall was discharged from there on the 8th March 1918, he was suffering Neurasthenia. I'm looking for an explanation on why a territorial soldier was sent to hospital in Scotland, so far from his family? did the hospital specialise in stress related illness? a photograph of the hospital would be absolutely terrific, or documents from the hospital in relation to Ernest if anybody would have any access to that kind of information any help whatsoever would be appreciated. Thankyou in advance
Piorun Posted 13 August , 2009 Share Posted 13 August , 2009 Glenlomond was an Other Ranks' War Hospital for "neurological" cases. As to why your GG/F was sent there, you would need to look perhaps at where he was serving at the time he was first diagnosed, which unit he was with, and a number of other factors. I believe that the hospital site is now a residential development with a nursing home. Sorry I can't be of more help. Antony
Moriaty Posted 13 August , 2009 Share Posted 13 August , 2009 Following on from Piorun's response, it is now Levenglen Nursing Home, Glenlomond Village, Wester Balgedie, set in the countryside with amazing views of Loch Leven. A WW1 hospital which, in the 1980s, became a residential development around the hospital which is now an old peoples' home/ nursing home. Kinross and Milnathort are a few miles away.
