Brancepeth castle?

Recommended Posts

I am researching my great grandfather J Furness 35793 of the 19th Durham Light Infantry. We have his medal records etc.

I have been informed that he signed up at brancepeth castle. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about brancepeth castle etc?

Kind regards

Pete

Its just a few miles up the road from me ! Its still there, it used to be the HQ of an army camp that stood around it and was the HQ depot for the DLI. Apparently the DLI would march at there quick pace into Durham on occasion, I bet it was a fantastic sight !
