asdarley Posted 28 July , 2009 Share Posted 28 July , 2009 Here are two more photos from the old sewing box. Both of German transport abandoned at Aresnes rail station. I have never seen wheels with suspension systems like this before. I wonder if it was wide spread practice?
centurion Posted 28 July , 2009 Share Posted 28 July , 2009 Although such systems had been experimented with pre war (once such developer of the puncture proof tyre being a young Ahthony Fokker) it was the Germans and KuK who were forced into adopting such measures in the latter years of the war because of a desperate shortage of oil and rubber (both constituents of heavy duty tyres). These tyres were not entirely satisfactory as they were prone to damage from running over hard lumps and wore out quickly anyway. I have seen a photo of a British army cyclist with a bike with similar tyres (but it could have been captured) - will post tonight.

john jerome mcmanus Posted 4 August , 2009 Share Posted 4 August , 2009 G'day all, While I have not contributed to this post, it has suggested that, perhaps, a new topic (not that I know if we need one) could be invested in the GWF entitled "Classics" as I think that the postings of Edorc and Siege Gunner (numbers 5 and 6) are of classic wit and should be remembered!
