If they only served in India, the only entitlement was to the War Medal. Service in France would give entitlement to the Victory Medal and, depending on date of entry to theatre 14/15 Star.

Combat on the NW frontier counted as entry into a theatre of war in limited circumstances. But not all men serving in 21st Lancers will necessarily have qualified.

Traveling in hope rather than expectation doe's anyone know anything about L-2270 Pte/L-Cpl A J Brotchie 21st Lancers while in India. I assume (dangerously) that he would have been in action on the NWF as he was awarded a 1914-15  trio. The 1911 census records him as a Lancer and the medal roll notes discharged to re-enlist (which I don't understand)) born in Lee, Kent he died in Cambridge.

Well his MIC mentions entering the theater of war 5G (Hafiz) on 5/9/15, which matches the date of the action at Hafiz Kor near Shabkadar where Private Charles Hull won his VC so yes I think you man was present.
