museumtom Posted 1 May , 2004 Share Posted 1 May , 2004 Soldiers died in the Great war was a collection of books covering all the units in the British Army that died in the war. Each book covers one regiment. The Navy and the Air Force are not covered by these. The Naval and Military Press 'digitised' them and made the whole tedium of searching for war dead a piece of cake by creating a CD rom containing all the regiments. You can search by Birth place, enlistment place, a specific date.or between specific dates, Residences, type of death ( DOW, KIA etc) and former units the casualty was attached to..................it is brilliant but costs a fortune, about £230. There is also a ww2 version which only cover 170,000 casualties. The SDGW one covers about 700,000. I use it every day and never tire. I keep coming up with different ways of using it.
