Does anyone know the movements of the above battalion 22nd October 1917 - 24th January 1918, I believe in the Arras sector, as part of 10th Bde of 4th Division. Also does anyone know if the war diary exists for that period?

many thanks

matt

Hi

Taken from Die Hards in the Great War:

Left Ypres on 18th October. First to Houpoutre and then to Aubigny and marched to Y Huts near Etrun training.

23rd October to Schramm Barracks.

24/25th October took over front line trenches Pick Avenue to Gordon Avenue in Cambrai Rd Sector, wiring and patrol work

28/29th October relieved and 2 Cos to Spade Reserve and 2 to Caves at Les Fosses Farm.

November "quiet month"

December began with Battalion in Arras. On 10th December into the Monchy sector.

On 30th December out of the line at Bois des Boeufs (Monchy)

On 3rd January relieved the 1/Hants in the left sub-sector of the (right) 10th Brigade of the 4th Division. Patrol work, uneventful.

On 13th January the enemy tried to raid Sap 7 but were repulsed.

Battalion relieved and out of the line until 27/28th January.

The War Diary will probably fill in the sketchy details given above

Regards

Martin
