Hello,

A friend of mine had a grandfather who served in WW1. His name was William Lynam and he served with the 4th Hussars. He enlisted in Athlone, Ireland on 25th September 1913 and served for seven years and forty two days with the colours to 5th November 1920, and the four years and 170 days in the reserve to 24th April 1925. He recived the 1914 Star, British war Medal and Victory Medal. He was discharged in a medically unfit for further service under paragraph 484(V) Kings Regulations.

Would anybody know if there is a greater likely hood of his record being with the MOD as he was discharged from the reserve in 1925?. A search was made in the PRO but nothing was found, so my hope is with the MOD records.

Regards,

Kliff Snow

MOD have records of servicemen who served with the colours from 1 January 1921 onwards and not 1920 as the 'experts' at the PRO tell you.

His papers should be at the PRO unless he was called up from the reserve any time after 1 January 1921 or were lost in the Blitz.
