Mark Finneran Posted 15 July , 2009 Share Posted 15 July , 2009 Is there a means, or even an appetite to have on this forum a 'library/list' of individuals who are specifically interested in certain units or items etc. The motivator is for example if I have a RFC unwanted item, instead of listing on Ebay or some other auction site I can contact the RFC individual/s directly and discuss there first. This then benefits the forum members instead of going for open bidding competition. Of course this would benefit everybody! I hope that makes sense. Of course as a collector this to me would be a great thing and ensures pieces go to someone who appreciates them, but, it may not be what the Forum is comfortable with considering the excellent depth of knowlege displayed. herbie4798 Posted 15 July , 2009 Share Posted 15 July , 2009 I agree. Sounds a good idea. I would be more than happy for items to go to a collector and someone who has a genuine interest. James
John_Hartley Posted 15 July , 2009 Share Posted 15 July , 2009 Is there a means, ...........to have on this forum a 'library/list' of individuals who are specifically interested in certain units or items etc. There already is, isn't there? Wouldn't someone interested in purchasing RFC items post that in the "Wants......" section, where similarly a seller can also post?
Kate Wills Posted 15 July , 2009 Share Posted 15 July , 2009 Mark, As a collector myself (concert party material if you have anything going) I like the idea, and I would also like to see a list of specialisms and interests. Like you and James I prefer to see items going to the right home - which isn't necessarily the person with the deepest pockets. So yes, your idea gets the thumbs up from me, but there is a small problem. The amount of traffic on the GWF ensures that threads quickly become buried under new material. As an example, I started a thread many moons ago for volunteer photographers who were willing to take photos of graves / memorials / anything really etc in their area for other Pals. It gets revived from time to time, but like Sleeping Beauty it seems destined to spend a century in undisturbed slumber, because it is out of sight and out of mind. I have just devoted a couple of minutes to finding it, but it has eluded me so far, even with imaginative search terms. Perhaps the answer is a new section dedicated to lists such as collectors / photographers etc. In other words, a GWF Directory. We could call it the Blue Pages!! Most forums make threads like this "sticky", so they remain at the top of their board permanently.

John_Hartley Posted 15 July , 2009 Share Posted 15 July , 2009 Embarass me: How long did it take for yu to find it, and how? About 20 seconds. As you were the thread starter, it was easy peasy. Just clicked on your name and viewed your threads. Simples.
Kate Wills Posted 19 July , 2009 Share Posted 19 July , 2009 Mark, What had you in mind? Something along the lines of the photo thread in John's link?
Mark Finneran Posted 21 July , 2009 Author Share Posted 21 July , 2009 John/Kate TY for replies. Yes it could be something along those lines - a name then the particular subject or main area of interest. I understand John's point but it is not just about selling, it would assist the id of and further detailed communication of 'like minded' people. However if members feel it would limit or reduce the amount of divers and interesting threads because individuals may go 'direct' then that is a fair point. There might be a danger of too much 'offline' comms and less threads. The sales part is good and if all members read it then that satisfies the 'sales' part. My point was really getting to know other individuals who are interested in the area I enjoy, and progressing from there. Hope that makes sense.
