bmac Posted 9 July , 2009 Share Posted 9 July , 2009 Wonder if anyone has to hand or can point me to a resource which gives the rankings within a typical French infantry regiment from 'private' up to CO c. 1916? Also the usual structure of an infantry regiment would be useful. Also wonder if anyone can indentify the meanings of the following initials in the context, again, of a French infantry Regt: EM PC TF TC CHR CMR TF and TC are clearly something to do with the transport, EM and perhaps PC with regimental headquarters. CMR and CHR have just cropped up in a war diary and are not immediately obvious. Lastly, was there a set number of the 37 mm infantry support weapon allocated to a regiment when it was introduced? Thanks for any direction, help or even helpful guesses!
CROONAERT Posted 9 July , 2009 Share Posted 9 July , 2009 EM = Etat -Major (HQ) PC = Poste de command (Command post) TF = Transport ferree (Rail transport) TC = Transport chevalier (Horse transport) CHR = Compagnie Hors Rang (HQ Support Coy) CMR = I feel that I know CMR, but it escapes me at the moment

A bit basic (and incomplete), but this is a start, i suppose (from the Chicago Daily News War Book)...
