Remembered Today:

Brigade, Divisional & Artillery Records

In my quest to research Bellewaarde, Ypres on 16th June 1915 I have been helped by a few good men. The information I have in my possession gives me a good insite to the battle from the Northumberland Fusiliers standpoint.

I now want to look at things from the Brigade or Divisional point of view and at this particular battle many shells were fired at the German lines and therefore Artillery records would also be very welcome.

9th Brigade - 3rd Division

Also any other records of regiments who fought that day are now sought.

I would be most grateful for any help in this regard.

Hello Martin,

I am sure you are aware that the brigade and divisional war diaries pertaining to your battalion are held at the National Archives. A visit down there armed with a good steady camera will get you all you want, then you can look at your leisure. Obviously this will only give you a certain side to the battle and without the use of hindsight (which I find refreshing) but you get a vast amount of information in regard to the divisional/brigade work ethic etc. as well on occasions some operational reports.

Have you read around the subject? I am unsure what the official history holds on it but I have a copy that could be copied and sent over too you if its of value? Just let me know and give me a few days as i have a a busy few days ahead of me.

Regards

Arm

Hi how are you Arm?

After reading your post re: 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, I have to state that you do have friends, many I also know, so let that go on record.

Back to the important stuff.

Yes I realise that a trip to Kew might be needed, however, I have found on this and other forum that the impossible is sometimes held on someones P.C. at home, so I was giving it a go.

I have had the most fantastic luck with this project as I have been in touch with someone who knows a great amount about the enemy at that time and that means I am putting together the story from the Reserve Infanterie Regiment Nr. 246 point of view who were in the opposing trenches on the 15th/16th June.

I have also decided that I can't just research the Northumberlands as there were so many other regiments involved. So lots of work ahead.

Yes I would be very gratefull to recieve any information you can send me. Being new to the subject means that I have a vast amount to take in, but there are those that would say that I have a vast amount of space to put it in.

I look forward to receiving it. I'll P.M. my email.

Thanks for your help as alway Arm.
