jimmyjames Posted 13 April , 2004 Share Posted 13 April , 2004 This young man is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial. He emigrated to Australia (date unknown) and on enlistment on 23rd August 1915 he was living in Woolahra, NSW (? suburb of Sydney). He embarked for France on 2nd May 1916 as a reinforcement for 30th Bn AIF but was repatriated to Australia on 17th August 1916 (the AWM Roll of Honour states he was RTA which I presume means "Returned to Australia". He died on 28th June 1917, aged 24. Contemporary newspaper reports, and a commemoration to him on the family grave in Cheltenham Cemetery state he is buried in Burwood, NSW. I cannot find him in the DoHR at the CWGC nor can I find him listed on the AWM. Are any of the Aussie Pals aware of anything which may preclude him from being commemorated or is this a case well worth following up? With many thanks, Jimmy

Guest stevenbec Posted 15 April , 2004 Share Posted 15 April , 2004 Mate, You can order this man's Army Personal file via the Australian National Archives site which may give you more detail on him. The only problem will be the Month or more it takes for the file to be placed on the webb site. So if you request it now it will not be to long.
