The date is obvious as is the general idea the writer wanted to convey.

My question is ....Who Wrote It?

Anyone see this or similar poems before?

It is among my pop's or his brothers WW1 papers.

thanks,

shawn

Please note that this is not posted to offend any nation, this is just research!

edit....Anyone know the 4th last word?

I read it as "and see I swallow the lot".

I'm with Mike,

the two previous I's have curly tails

Could the "her" have been Germany ? did she "swallow up" Italy and Austria while France watched - showing my ignorance of the Great war events :(

Although it's apparently written in WW1, does it refer to WW1 or to something earlier? Italy was part of the Entente, not the Central Powers, and it's impossible to see how France could be said to be standing by with a careless eye when she was the site of the major fighting throughout the war. For Austria to be involved suggests eastern Europe is the more likely area. Is the turkey being carved the Balkans or part of the Ottoman Empire, turkey then being a pun?
