Solomon Robert Smith RHA

Hi I have been trying to trace my great grandfather's WW1 service record but have been unsucessful and wondered if anyone can give me any more ideas? I have tried the various web sites like ancestry.com and findmypast but have not been able to locate it.

Name Solomon Robert Smith DOB 28/11/1895 in Limehouse, Stepney in London. He married on 25/2/1918 and on that date his occupation was given as Gunner R.H.A which I think is the Royal Horse Artillery. However on his marriage certificate he looks like he has switched his name to Robert Solomon Smith.

I had great success tracing my great uncle who served with Aygyll and Sutherland Highlanders but perhaps Solomon's war record was destroyed as I understand that many records were. The medal roll index did not help as there were no Solomon's and checking the name Robert there too many and because they don't give date of birth etc.

Is there any department eg MOD that you can write to with as much detail as you have and they could perhaps check?

Any help would be great

Steven. Only one MIC for a ROBERT SMITH ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY number 622598 on Ancestry and in the National Archives. His service record MAY have survived as not all records are on Ancestry, only up to the letter M to date and no sign as to when the remainder are being put on. Ralph.

I did find another one...Robert Smith 26079 Gunner RHA showing his 15 star entitlement. Don't know if it helps.

Thanks Ralph and Ellie will check these out. I didn't know that ancestry had only done some service records. My great uncle was Donald Anderson so if they are doing it in alphabetical then that makes sense.

Can you write to anyone with details like DOB etc to see if they have details on file? I wasn't sure if MOD would have records.

Thanks again

Steven
