Gheluvelt Posted 24 June , 2009 Share Posted 24 June , 2009 Pals, Re:- Pte 16508 Evan Jenkins 8th South Wales Borderers Apologies for resurrecting this one, but I have discovered that my Grandfather's medals are with a (distant) relative, and one of them is the Croix de Guerre. I understand that the London Gazette has a list of all CdG awards, but having done a search, I can find no record of him having one, although I understand the 7th Btn were awarded one as a Battalion, but not Grandad's 8th (he wouldn't have one of his own anyway) I suppose this probably means that he "acquired" one along the way, but if anybody can be kind enough to shed some light on this, it would be appreciated. Also, I can find no more about his picture in an Argyll & Sutherland Highlander cap (as in earlier post in Units & Formations). I appreciate the trail is very cold, but again, having trawled through the Btn diaries, can find no mention of it, although I was informed that the 8th SWB and a couple of A&SH battalions were in Salonika at the same time. As usual, really appreciate any help or guidance on offer. Regards, Mike
