1st battalion which had landed the previous day.

Westlake records "B Coy ordered forward to support 2nd Royal Fusiliers attack on Hill 114. Later these troops were forced to retire and when the enemy were within 120 yards of the beach "C" Coy with part of D went forward. Lt Gen Sir William Marshall, then commanding 87th brigade recalls....."I ordered the Borders to charge and over the cliff edge they went with ringing cheers. The eney fired heavily causing some 50 casualties but not waiting for the bayonet they fled in every direction." Advance continued to the east for over 600 yards. A Coy attacked north east of beach, gaining some 1000 yards before digging in. casualties: Major Vaughan, Lt James killed, Lt Bartolomew mortally wounded 3 other officers wounded, 25 OR killed, 78 wounded."

The forum comes up trumps again - thanks very very much Steve and John.

If there's any chance of a copy of the photo that would be great.
