EastSurrey Posted 21 June , 2009 Share Posted 21 June , 2009 In Chappell's"British Battle Insignia 1914-18"there is a modern illustration C3,repeated on the front cover,of an officer in 9th East Surreys,24th Division. In the text(page 44)the author refers to the custom of officers wearing coloured ribbons on the rear collar in this division and that"the fashion lapsed from late 1915 onwards in some battalions, but not in the E.Surreys, whose officers were painted still wearing their black, white and red ribbons late in the war." Can anyone advise where such a painting/paintings exists? The regimental museum is unable to throw any light on this matter. Michael
