PhilB Posted 20 June , 2009 Posted 20 June , 2009 The caption says it`s Henry in 1912 at age 15. What`s the outfit?
Dolphin Posted 20 June , 2009 Posted 20 June , 2009 Phil The uniform is that of the Royal Naval Air Service. Perhaps the photograph date is incorrect. Gareth
SiegeGunner Posted 20 June , 2009 Posted 20 June , 2009 The same photo appears in Henry's Wikipedia entry with the more-plausible caption "Allingham in RNAS uniform in 1916".
PhilB Posted 20 June , 2009 Author Posted 20 June , 2009 That makes more sense! I take it the RNAS dressed more like soldiers than sailors then?
GrahamC Posted 20 June , 2009 Posted 20 June , 2009 Has anyone else noticed that Henry is now the WORLD'S oldest man as the guy in Japan who was 252 days older has just died.

They were issued with a variety of uniforms depending on what was available and the theatre that they were in. The range included naval tropical whites as well as khaki. I expect that puttees would be more practical in a plane than bell bottoms!
