Corporal Joseph Aylett

Hi all,

Am trying to trace some details of a long lost Uncle that was a regular soldier (I think) before the war and survived until around the 1950s.

I have managed to track down his medal card form Ancestry but know nothing else (other than he was born in Newry Northern Ireland).

His details are as follows: -

Joseph Aylett

6733

1st Battalion East Lancashire Regiment

Entered theatre of war on 14/09/14

obtained '14 Star medal (as a private) and British and Victory medal as a Corporal

Any details relating to him or the actions he/his regiment were involved would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Adrian

Also this page concerning the 4th Division, which lists the actions the 1ELR was involved in as part of 11 Brigade of that Division:

These pages come from the Long Long Trail link,at top left of this page.

Great, loads of info. thanks for the tips.

Has anyone any ideas where I should start in researching his background. I would like to find out what role he had in the army, what company he was in, campaigns he may have been involved in etc.

A long shot I guess as I know so little about him.
