Remembered Today:

Theft from Reading Museum

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.

I received an email today from the Army Museums Ogilby Trust, alerting us to the fact that a Berkshire Yeomanry Cavalry Helmet was stolen from a gallery at Reading Museum on Thursday 11th June.

The museum accession number was probably written on the helmet in black ink, most likely on the inside. The number may be written as 284.63, 284/63, or possibly as 1963.284.1.

If any of the Forum pals spot this helmet in a car-boot sale, auction, militaria dealers etc, or are offered the helmet for their collection, could they please notify Thames Valley Police and quote the crime reference number EA 3359248/09.

I'm not an expert on Yeomanry headdress, but to me the helmet looks similar to that worn by the Household Cavalry. I'm unsure as to the age of the helmet, but have put this in chit-chat in the hope that some of our Pals-who-collect might keep an eye out for it.

Many thanks

Barrie
