David Seymour Posted 16 June , 2009 Share Posted 16 June , 2009 I am looking for a photo of the grave of 3550 Pte Bertram Denney, Army Cyclist Corps, KIA 8/9/17. He is buried in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, VIII G 6. A photo of that end of the cemetery would also be helpful. Grateful as always for any assistance. Sbufkle Posted 14 July , 2009 Share Posted 14 July , 2009 Excuse my ignorance, but I have to ask! Is this really a NEW Cemetary or section of it is new, which would wxplain the dirt instead of normally well maintained ground around headstone? The headstone looks new, so I am guessing the answer is yes!
ralphjd Posted 14 July , 2009 Share Posted 14 July , 2009 Ignorance is forgiven, it is a New cemetery opened in 1917 in readiness for one of the big pushes to be held. The cemetery will be in the process of having the turf relaid as the CWGC do every so often hence the "dirt" and all headstones almost always look "new" they are that well maintained by the CWGC. Regards Ralph.

Regards Ralph. Thanks for the info! I know that they are still placing the fallen into cemeteries even 90+ years later, and do work on some stones that weather.. so some stones do look in better shape than others! David Seymour Posted 8 August , 2009 Author Share Posted 8 August , 2009 Hi Patrick, I have been away from the Forum for a while and have only just picked up your photos of Bertram Denney's grave. Very many thanks for taking them and for posting them. His niece will be delighted. Interestingly the CWGC uses DENNY whereas the name is actually DENNEY. David Seymour Posted 22 June , 2011 Author Share Posted 22 June , 2011 Recently, as the result of a request from a member of Bertram Denney's family to the CWGC to change the spelling of Denny to Denney, a new headstone has been put up in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery carrying the correct spelling of Bertram's surname. If anyone is in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery in the near future I would be grateful if someone could take a photo of the headstone, which I can then pass on to Bertram's niece. The grave location is VIII G 6. Many thanks for any help you can give. With best wishes, David

David Seymour Posted 22 June , 2011 Author Share Posted 22 June , 2011 Judy, How very kind! It might be as well for me to ask you to take a photo as well as PBI in case you have a sunnier day than him when at the cemetery. So, thank you very much - yes, please. alantaylor2004@hotmail.com Posted 19 March , 2013 Share Posted 19 March , 2013 Hi there, Can anyone help me with a photo of the grave of Dvr William Alfred Haines T4/093164 ASC who was KIA (died of wounds) 15/11/1917 and buried at the Vlamertinque New Military cemetery. I have found a few things on the CWGC site and have also been trying to find a memorial in England with his name on without any luck. The places that are mentioned where there may be a memorial are Berks, Tristlam, Bicester, Walingford, Banbury and Farnborough. I would be glad if you could give me any help in finding any further information. Thanks in advance, Alan
