I am trying to find out if this soldier is the soldier named on the Bangor War memorial. There is only two Robert Anderson killed whilst serving with Royal Irish Rifles and his address is East Belfast. He is listed as Albert Street Bangor on the Eddies extracts. Any advice would be great.

Regards,

Phil

Could this be the Bangor connection you seek, seems one of the children is missing from 42 Albert Street, could this be a Robert in Belfast? Might mean a visit to the PRO for the 1901 census!

Further to above post I don't think the 3592 Robert Anderson is the one your after as he is listed as CoI on the 1911 census.

The other Robert Anderson 16153 as listed for RIR was born in Drumglass Co Tyrone.

Tommy,

after seeing the census the 3592 Rfm Robert Anderson would be the wrong man. The county Tyrone Anderson would not fit as the Census states they are were born in County Down. I am going to broaden my search. Thanks for your help.

Phil

I knew I had read somewhere about a recent publication about Bangor War Memorial, see post 5 on this thread marked below. A PM to Brian Curragh might give you some info on the Bangor Robert Anderson if that's what you're after.

Hi Phil

Robert Anderson was actually in the Canadian Expeditionary Force - the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Regiment). This is definitely your man as CWGC gives his parent's address as 42 Albert Street, Bangor - the CWGC page is here.

His CEF attestation papers are here which gives more info on him (DOB 12 Apr 1881; trade = lumberman)

Hope that helps! If you need anything else - give me a shout. Are you involved with www.ulsterwarmemorials.net ?

Regards

Brian
