Jose Posted 10 June , 2009 Share Posted 10 June , 2009 Does anybody knows where it was the HMS Duke of Edinburgh on June 20th, 1917? And the HMS Cochrane in the same data? Thank you very much.
Paul Ormerod Posted 10 June , 2009 Share Posted 10 June , 2009 In 1917 HMS Duke of Edinburgh was escorting Atlantic convoys. HMS Cochrane was with the West Indies and North American Station. Photos of HMS Cochrane during the First World War are available at http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/warr...#HMS%20Cochrane. Paul

ionia Posted 10 June , 2009 Share Posted 10 June , 2009 In June, 1917, the COCHRANE was with the 2nd Cruiser Squadron, Grand Fleet, based at Swarbacks Minn in the Shetland Islands. She joined the North America and West Indies Station in November of that year. With the introduction of the Navicert system the patrols of the 2CS ceased in August, 1917 and the squadron was broken up with the ships being used for transatlantic convoy escort. DUKE OF EDINBURGH, also with 2CS, was under refit at some time during 1917 but I do not know the dates.

I just wanted exactly to know what of the two warships was close to the Shetland islands in June 1917. And it seems to me that the answer is the HMS Cochrane... Anyway, I would like to know where it was during the same time the HMS Duke of Edinburgh, because, it was in the 2º Squadron too... maybe both of them were in the Shetlands? ionia Posted 11 June , 2009 Share Posted 11 June , 2009 At the time of its disolution, 2CS consisted of ACHILLES, COCHRANE and DUKE OF EDINBURGH. They may all have been close to the Shetlands in June and perhaps you will need to consult their logs or Reports of Proceedings.
