Guest Posted 3 May , 2020 Share Posted 3 May , 2020 Hello Ken. Hope you can help, our Cricket Club lost 9 members in WW1, we have pretty good details of all of them . However there is a problem with Robert McDowell, he was an officer in the 7th and was killed 25/2/17 near Basra, he was awarded an MC. Now the mystery, there seems to be no trace of him in the Commonwealth War Graves site, also he is listed in his church honour roll as Captain but any record we see he a Second Lieutenant. Any help or signpost would be thankfully received. Ian
Admin Michelle Young Posted 3 May , 2020 Admin Share Posted 3 May , 2020 Welcome to the forum Ian. He's recorded erroneously as MacDowell on the CWGC site. Michelle

Have mostly been doing motorcycle maintenance! Ian As you are aware his record is at TNA http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1091865 The Army would keep his substantive rank on records, he may have been Acting/Captain, one assumes the family had input to the Honour roll and they may have simply told the vicar he was a captain. Looks like someone has done the hard work https://remembranceni.org/2020/02/25/february-25-roll-of-honour/ Ken
