chris basey Posted 9 April , 2004 Share Posted 9 April , 2004 This may be of interest to the relevant researchers: Extract from the Blofield Deanery Magazine (Norfolk) November 1916 issue, in respect of the parish of Strumpshaw: "The Rector and Mrs Spurgin would like to take this opportunity of thanking the parishioners for the many kind expressions of sympathy on the loss in the war of their twin brothers Charles and Edward Cartwright. The former was killed at Ypres in April, the latter fatally wounded in the battle of the Somme on September 26th. He lived long enough to be brought to the Military Hospital in Leeds when he was visited by his relations, and everything that could possibly be done was done for him. He passed away on October 11th and was buried at Wimpole near Cambridge. his old home, on the 14th, the service being conducted by the Rector of Strumpshaw. He leaves a widow and three children in British Columbia, and the other leaves a widow in England." CWGC: 180598 Pte E.CARTWRIGHT Canadian Infantry (B.Columbia Regt) 7th Bn died 11TH OCTOBER 1916. Son of the late Rev G. & Mrs Cartwright and husband of Mary in Victoria, BC. 2nd Lt C.CARTWRIGHT 8th Bn Bedfordshire Regiment. Died 19th April 1916. Commemorated Menin Gate.
