lostinspace Posted 5 June , 2009 Share Posted 5 June , 2009 Hi Ian, This is hardly the last word in information but Ray Westlake (British Battalions in France & Belgium, 1914) shows the 2nd Essex at sea on board the SS Corsican. They were at Harrow on the 18th, arrived in Southampton on the 22nd and sailed for Le Havre and didn't arrive until the 24th then marched to No. 2 Rest Camp. I think 4th Division, or at least the major portion of 4th Division, missed Mons but were in time to fight at Le Cateau.
