Guest Shiloh Posted 31 May , 2009 Share Posted 31 May , 2009 Hi. This is my first post, and I hope someone out there can help me. I recently received a copy of my Grandad's service record (an Army Reservist, mobilised 5 August 1914) and read there "France, Exp Force, from 19.8.14 to 16.4.19". Does this mean he sailed on 19 August? Can I find out which ship he sailed on? I'm unsure what he was doing until 12 October 1914, when he was posted as Gunner to 2 Sec, 5th Division Ammunition Column. He was a Signaller with the RFA, moving to the RE later in the War. Any thoughts?
jay dubaya Posted 31 May , 2009 Share Posted 31 May , 2009 Welcome to the forum Shiloh do you have a copy of Grandad's MIC (medal index card)? It should tell us which unit he sailed out with on that date although I suspect he was with the 5th DAC. The information you require may be contained in the units war diary which is held at the National Archives Jon
