There's a pan-European timetable on Deutschebahn's website. It shows the last train on both Saturday and Sunday as being 18:48; I didn't try other days.

Can't help with your other query but there are Amiens to Albert trains if getting to Arras is a problem.

John,

You have arrived at your problem in the wrong way.

You wish to visit Albert, from Arras,by train and presumably wish to visit a Cemetery,or at least picture a last view, but yet catch a train from Albert to Arras.

Surely the point of visiting Albert,is for you, that you must trust the people, and I know that the people of Albert.will look after you,be it, point you in the direction of a Bed and Breakfast or tell you when the last Train leaves.

With respect to George, it's unwise to turn up in Albert and hope that the locals will help you out. Despite what many of us think, very few ordinary people in France speak English and unless you speak French, no-one is going to be in a position to help you.

Re. trains. There used to be a few extra trains around 5pm-ish for kids going home from school in Arras, and those travelling from Albert to Amiens. As for getting to CDG without using the TGV - to my knowledge that is impossible without going into Paris coming from Arras. And then I am not even sure it is possible from Paris.

Hello John,

I've just recently come back from a few days in Albert, by train and pushbike, without any train problems.

Albert and Arras are on the Amiens-Lille route, with regular connections between Paris-Nord and Amiens.

Arriving at Arras by TGV at 4pm - remember all rail timetables are in 24 hour time - trains leave Arras to Albert at 16.32 Monday to Saturday, and Monday to Friday at 17.25, 17.47, 18.52 and on Saturday only at 18.48. Travel time is approx. 25 - 30 minutes. Sunday service after 4 o'clock is 16.32 and 18.48 from Arras.

It is straight forward if you want to return to CDG from Albert. Trains depart Albert to Amiens Monday to Friday at 9.14, 9.25, 11.37, 13.11, 14.07, 16.49, and on Saturday only at 11.22, 13.20, 14.08. Travel time is again approx. 25 - 30 minutes. There is at least an hourly service from Amiens to Paris Nord, taking just over an hour; from Paris Nord frequent and speedy RER trains take you into CDG.

If you arrive at Arras on time, I'd suggest you nip into the travel/ticket office at the station and pick up a leaflet for TER-Picardie, leaflet No.1 for (Paris)-Amiens-Lille, with the present timetables up to 4 July. Otherwise, I've always found the station staff at Albert very helpful - some speak excellent English, others a bit, but all will give you train timetable information.

I can confirm other comments - contrary to our ideas, not a lot of locals in Albert speak English (how many locals in England speak French?), including surprisingly some of the staff in the tourist office next door to Hotel de la Basilique, but the owners of that excellent hotel do. Two others if you get into a spot are the proprietor of Corners Cafe and Thierry at the 3 Pigeons, both near the Basilique.

Have a good trip, and be assured that SNCF trains are fast and efficient, if they don't decide to go on strike!
