CGM Posted 29 May , 2009 Share Posted 29 May , 2009 Hello all, This is a photo which was taken in Australia, either in 1915 before going overseas with C Coy. 29th Battalion 8th Infantry Brigade, or on returning in 1919 with the Aust. Employ. Coy. Does anyone think the rectangle over the LH pocket gives a clue as to when it would have been taken? The pattern on it doesn't look familiar to me. Please click here then double click on the larger of the two pics. Regards, CGM

CGM Posted 29 May , 2009 Author Share Posted 29 May , 2009 Thank you Jon, Suddenly I think I understand. This would be the red, white and blue ribbon? So dark at each end and light in the middle, as in the photo, (which is of my grandad). He was given the 1914/15 star, which I have. I also have two strips of his medal ribbon badges (is that how they are described?) but they are made up of the colours of all three medal ribbons (The Star, the British War Medal and the the Victory Medal) - so not dark at each end and light in the middle, which was why I was confused. One strip is only 3cm long but the other is 10cm long. I'm not sure where the tiny one would have been worn. Were these ribbon badges issued separately from the medals, as I have the complete set of these but I only have his Star as his War Medal and Victory Medals were returned because he was back in England in 1923. Thank you again, CGM
gas4401478 Posted 1 June , 2009 Share Posted 1 June , 2009 Hi, I'm reasonably certain that this photo would have been taken after returning. Are you certain that he didn't receive the the Victory and British War Medals? If they were never issued it may be possible to request issue. Could you please supply your GF's name and reg nos. I can do a quick search of his records. Regards, Graeme
