Remembered Today:

RAMC Officer attached to battalions

Anyone know if there is any way of identifying specific RAMC officers attached to certain battalions? Are they mentioned in the Army Lists as serving with X or Y Bn?

Or for that matter, can the attached U.S. Army Doctors be identified?

Best regards,

Matthew

Hi Matthew

Ive looked at a couple of US Medical Officers attached to West Ridings Regiment.Their MICs had Orthapeodic Unit attached to RAMC on their Unit.

Have a thread running on a Lt NR Davis US Medical Officer at the moment.

Luckily the 1/4th Batt history has a list of Medical Officers attached.

The Infantry battalion War Diaries often mention the MO who is attached and the Field Ambulance War Diairies regularly mention the comings and goings of officers to infantry battalions, including reliefs due to wounds, sickness, leave, courses etc.

I have details of US Army Doctors attached to the 9th King's.

Ady & Ken,

Thanks for your suggestions.

Looks like the Field Ambulance diaries are the next port of call.

Best regards,

Matthew

You can see them in the Army List against the units they serve. The RAMC Officer section.

Also in the back of the List there is an alpha index of Officers and a number against the entry, this relates to a column number to a unit that they are attached to.

Of course there are several Lists issued in a year so this will cover all the movements but is a bit of a work-up !
