Andrew Hesketh Posted 7 April , 2004 Share Posted 7 April , 2004 Mick, Welcome to the forum. Have you checked out the mother site? If not, it's the best way to begin. Look in Units of the Army, then the Infantry and then scroll down the list.
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 8 April , 2004 Share Posted 8 April , 2004 Hello Mick, I have done quite a bit of research into the 9th Bn - I will look through my notes to see if he is mentioned when I get home this evening. Ian
Steve11 Posted 16 April , 2004 Share Posted 16 April , 2004 Hi Mick, I visited the PRO yesterday to look-up my grandfather who also served in the East Surrey Regiment. As it's very possible he was in the 13th battalion I read through the battalion war diaries but found no reference to either him of your wife's grandfather. I also looked up Pte Mole's MIC and this shows that at some time he transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers. MIC DETAILS Name: E. G. Mole. Corps: East Surrey Regiment. Rank: Private. Reg No.: 7509. Corps: Northumberland Fusiliers. Rank: Private. Reg No.: 95682. Victory Medal (Roll 01/1/105 B24, Page 5272). British Medal (Roll 01/1/105 B24, Page 5272). 15 Star (Roll 0/1/36 - looks like 6, Page 16). Theatre of War: (1) France. Qualifying Date: 27 April 1915. If you'd like the MIC I can scan it and email or otherwise I can post. Steve
