Hi all, I hope someone can help. Im at a bit of a loose end. Im trying to find out where the man above was from. He survived the war. I have his MM and trio. MM awarded in April 1917. Im just trying to find out where he was from then I can start to look at newspaper archives etc. I dont know where to start. I have Ancestry but brings up quite a few William T powells. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

His number is 7832. It just looks like a Y- on the MIC !

Have you tried the Royal Green Jackets Museum in Winchester ? They might have Rolls etc.

Looks like a Y in the Gazette ;) , LG#30172, 9 July 1917.

Y/832 Sjt. W. T. Powell, K.R.R.C.

Link to Gazette is Here

Courtesy of MBrockway in another thread "A Service Number with a "Y" prefix usually denotes that the man was enlisting as a Special Reservist."
