Tinned Foods-Anti Corrosive Paint

I understand that some brands of tinned food in the Great War (such as Armour Corned Beef) were coated with anti-corrosive black paint. Does anyone know if this would be more similar to modern glossy or to flat black paint ? How about any brands other than Armour or food other than bully beef using anti-corrosive paint? Thanks for your help.
