Remembered Today:

The Salmon Brothers

Hello all,

I have just acquired two WW1 pairs to brothers Ernest William Salmon and Frederick G. Salmon (MIC's attached). Ernest was unfortunate KIA on 15 Sep 1916 serving with the 1/21st Bn London Regiment - 1st Surrey Rifles on the opening day of the Battle of Flers-Courcelette and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing. His brother Frederick survived the war and also served in the 21st Londons as well as the 19th Londons. They also had a younger brother Walter and I'm still trying to ascertain whether he served. All in all, a great find and nice to have two of the brothers 'together' again. Could someone also give me an idea what the note on the top left of Fredericks card means thanks.

cheers,

David

Hi Davo,

Can't quite see the number's clear enough, any chance of a larger copy?

Regards

Not sure about the first bit but the middle portion appears to be a date - 20/10/66 - followed by presumably the annotator's initials.

Looks as though your two brothers both joined the 21st Londons on 31st May 1915.

Paul,

many thanks for the enlistment date. It all helps with the research and I'm quite happy that the brothers are still together.

Cheers,

David
