kevan darby Posted 17 May , 2009 Share Posted 17 May , 2009 Hello can anyone help with any info on my two Great Grandfathers who both served in the Royal Engineers during the great war. the only info i have is they were both from Bethnal Green, London and worked as laboures before and after the war. i also have there 1915 medal rolls. Terry_Reeves Posted 17 May , 2009 Share Posted 17 May , 2009 Sapper Driver served, for part of his service at least, with the Railway Operating Division RE (the WR number). Driver Reece has a number that was allocated to 1st (London) Field Company of the 56th (1st London) Divisional Engineers. The company joined 6th Division in December 1914 and was renamed 509 Field Company in 1917. Incidentally, the drill hall was was in the road just behind the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green.
