Dunchurch Hall School, near Rugby

Does anyone live in the Rugby area?

If so, could you visit English Courtyard Homes, Dunchurch Hall on Vicarage Lane, Dunchurch? It's a retirement home. According to the UKNIWM the memorial boards to two schools which united at the site (Dunchurch Hall School and Winton House) are in the foyer.

I am looking for the names Kenneth Ronald Mathieson and John McDonald. Photos would be nice, but confirmation of the names is enough.

If you are feeling strong, could you also visit St. Peter's Church, which is not far away, in the Square? I have already found that Kenneth Mathieson's name appears on a brass plaque on the north wall of the church but, according to the UKNIWM, there are two memorials in the church.

One is a brass plaque below a three-light window with a list of names of pupils at Dunchurch Hall before 1900 (Boer War and Great War) and the other is a brass plaque below a two-light window, to Great War casualties.

Again, I would like a photo but confirmation of the names would do.

Many thanks, Michael

I tried gaining access a few years ago to photograph them, and was told in no uncertain terms I could not. I have photographs of all the plaques in the church however, and will have a look over the weekend for you. Winton School moved to Dunchurch in WW2 from Winchester I think, so as to escape the air raids in the south of England. Incidentally, there is a memorial plaque and window to the vicar of the church, the Rev Frank Harboard MC who served as a padre in the Boer War and WW1. The Reverend Harboard was killed in Flanders and is buried just a few rows away from Captain Noel Chavasse VC.

Thanks, Terry,

I'll write to the administrator and ask for the information. I look forward to hearing about the plaques in St. Peter's.
