Gunner Admiral?  Reminds me of the story of a senior naval person who remonstrated with a disrespectful Gunner. "Don't you salute Admirals in the Royal Artillery, man?"  " No Sir.  We don't have Admirals in the Royal Artillery."

 

ii once knew a new a soldier called Gunner O'Heare.  Say it quickly.  Yes, it was too good a joke to promote him.

 

there was also a very talented rugby player, Bombardier Commander...

I know this is a very old post but thought I would let you know  that Adjuvant Tyrwhitt Lumley Luttrell Thimbleby was my grandfather. Sadly I dont have his medals to see whether his name could be included on the rim!  He was a partner in Thimbleby and Shorland auctioneers in  Reading which still exists to this day.
