mutley Posted 18 April , 2009 Share Posted 18 April , 2009 Whilst searching through a soldiers service papers I came across a casualty list which it would appear was in his record by mistake, as he is not listed on it and thought that the information might be of interest. I don't know which hospital the casualties are being admitted to but it states at the top "Admitted 18th May '15 (Contd) and then has the following information: Number Rank & Name Unit Casualty 3572 Pte Sears EJ 2 R W Surrey Regt SW Thighs 10665 Sgt Simpson P 2 Gordon Hldrs GSW Back 10264 Pte Sambrook H 2 S Staffords SW Head, Arm 2532 Pte Stout A 2 R Hldrs GSW Chest 1349 Pte Semple W 2 HLI SW Leg 415 Pte Strudwick C 1 KRRC GSW Buttock 7144 Pte Smith EF 2 Worc Regt SW Ankle 1533 Bdn Smith C 9 HLI (T) SW Head & Leg 11839 Pte Thorpe B 2 Border Regt GSW Foot 3697 Pte Thomas A 2 R Innis Fus SW Arm, Wrist 10654 Pte Tipping F 2 Border Regt GSW Thighs 1429 LCpl Taylor GE 5 R Sussex Regt SW Multiple 1303 Pte Todd A 9 HLI (T) SW Leg. sotonmate Posted 18 April , 2009 Share Posted 18 April , 2009 Mutley Probably from the Battle of Festubert (2nd Ypres),a few units checked tie in with that, though it is also possible that a train has delivered casualties from various pick-ups. Without running through all the casualties and tie-ing them in to a Division we won't be sure, but certainly some from that Battle. grantowi Posted 18 April , 2009 Share Posted 18 April , 2009 Mutley, It might pay to add this list to a thread that is running in "Other" called Casualty Lists, started by Stiletto. Diane (Bardess) is compiling a database of all the casuality lists and Im sure that she will appreciate a few more names to add to her list :-) Grant
